Petal Knights Episode 1.1 Release!

Episode 1 is here!

Special thanks to a friend for testing. After fixing a lot of bugs and making a couple of final late additions, version 1.1 is done. I'm really excited to share this and very keen to hear any feedback you all might have! Versions for Windows, Linux and Mac are attached to this post.

This Episode is a complete scenario; a short story with combat, exploration, and tons and tons of Gossip. I'd estimate it takes between 30 minutes and an hour to complete, and the difficulty should hopefully be quite low.

It's been a long road to get here! I hope if you play this game you'll see some of the time and effort I've put into it over the last year. I always wanted to make a small game, but also wanted to give it an identity, something unique, at least amongst RPG Maker titles. I've learned so much in the process, and there's still so much more I hope to learn. If you play my game, I'd like to thank you very much for your time. I hope I used it well!

What's Next?

I'll be keeping an eye out for any bugs or particular pain points in feedback and look to get those fixed quickly where possible. Beyond that, there are some features I considered but eventually cut from this version, such as another, longer combat dungeon before the final boss fight, and a larger Court of Blossoms with more NPCs to explain the game's combat mechanics. I still have an interest in adding these back in if possible.

Beyond that, though, I'm planning to take a break from Petal Knights and move on to new projects. I've learned so much from working on this game, but I really want to push into some new and exciting territory, like learning TileD and Unity, while this project remains pretty firmly rooted in RPG Maker. I'd love to come back sometime in the future and add an Episode 2 with a new scenario (I still have a lot of ideas left!) but I think that'll wait until I've had a good breather.
