May Update 1


Hi! Sorry it's been a little while, I decided to take part in the No Travel Game Jam in April, so I wasn't working on Petal Knights for most of the month. You can check out my submission here: https://effieartoria.itch.io/no-travel-jam-silence For the past 2 weeks it's been back at Petal Knights with some exciting developments!

The biggest changes this time are under the hood. I won't go into too much detail, but I've made big changes to how questions work for Gossip that I think are going to be a huge improvement. They'll mean a lot more questions that you can pose to multiple NPCs, and a clearer way of tracking new questions as you unlock them.

When I started making Gossip I had a very loose idea of how I wanted it to work - talking to NPCs about different topics, but not a lot more than that. Topics were both things you asked about, but also things that you acquired, and sometimes used. Now I've divided them more clearly into Questions (things you ask, and you can learn new Questions), and Secrets, things you learn that you can reveal to special effect.

Sorry this update is a little dry. I really think that these changes are going to be a huge improvement for Gossip and I can't wait to show them off. Next time I'll record a video of them in action.

For now, here's a couple of screenshots showing a Secret being unlocked!


Don't mind the drab map! I always try and figure out the complex events first, then build the map around them. It won't look so boring in the finished product!
